Check the Inputs Before You Merge the Spreadsheets
The first useful improvement in a reporting tool can happen before it reads a single data row: show the user whether the required files are present. A folder full of spreadsheets is not necessarily a complete report. One group might have every input, another might be missing a register, and a third might contain two equally plausible exports. Starting a merge immediately makes those problems harder to explain later.
